Molecular design strategies for <scp>high‐performance</scp> organic electrochemical transistors

Organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) utilize ion flow from the electrolyte to modulate electrical conductivity of whole bulk organic semiconductor channel. With characteristic mixed ionic-electronic conducting in entire volume, OECTs exhibit high transconductance and act as good transducers, particularly bioelectronics. To gain high-performance OECTs, developing novel polymeric semiconductors is important. In this article, operation principles, performance evaluations, polymerization methods are first discussed. We then analyze molecular design strategies for OECT materials highlight characteristics effects backbone side chain engineering. Finally, we discuss some neglected unsolved issues provide an outlook research development.
